Meizu 17 series with Snapdragon 865 5G, 3D sensing camera and wireless charging

The company’s first flagship models for 2020, Meizu 17 and Meizu 17 Pro, come with a clean design and perforation in the display for the front camera. Both phones feature advanced CoF packaging technology, which increases the screen-to-body ratio by limiting the bottom frame to just 3.3mm.

The Meizu 17 series comes with Samsung’s 6.6-inch customized Super AMOLED display with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio, a resolution of 2340×1080 pixels and a 92.2% screen to body ratio. The AMOLED panel supports a 100% DCI-P3 color gamut with a high 90Hz refresh rate and a 180Hz touch sampling rate. The display panel reaches a peak brightness of 1100 nits with a pixel density of 390 ppi. The SGS certificate on the eye protection screen guarantees a reduction of harmful blue light by 37.5%. We also get a fast fingerprint sensor Super mTouch with a response time of 0.15 seconds.

Both models are available with the flagship 2.84GHz 7nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 + X55 5G 8-core mobile platform with support for autonomous and non-autonomous mode (SA and NSA) and Adreno 650 graphics processor. The company has developed its mSmart 5G technology for its new flagships, which significantly improves battery life when using a new generation cellular network. The efficiency of the phone’s battery is also due to the enveloping design of the antenna – 6 antennas form a 360° closed system, which provides a stable network connection.

Meizu 17 has 8GB of RAM with 128GB or 256GB UFS 3.1 storage, and Meizu 17 Pro is in versions with 8GB/128GB and 12GB/256GB, respectively RAM and ROM. Another difference between the standard and Pro models is that Meizu 17 Pro is equipped with the latest LPDDR5 RAM standard, while the more budget Meizu 17 has LPDDR4X.

The Meizu 17 series comes with a quad rear camera with a horizontal layout. The standard 17 model has a 64-megapixel sensor Sony IMX686 f/1.8, 12-megapixel Sony IMX362 f/1.9 for portrait mode, 5MP Samsung 5E9 f/1.9 for macro photos close to 2.5 cm, 8MP Samsung 4H7 f/2.2 118° ultra wide angle lens as well as with 6 LED ring flash. The camera captures 4K 60 frames of video and 480 frames of slow motion video.

Meizu 17 Pro is equipped with a more powerful camera configuration. It consists of the same 64MP IMX686 CMOS f/1.8, but also has an 8MP f/2.4 79mm OV 08A10 telephoto. With these two sensors, the phone can achieve up to 8x zoom without loss of quality, with a focal length range of 26mm to 210mm.

Another big highlight in the camera of Meizu 17 Pro is the brand new 32MP 129° ultra wide angle lens of Sony IMX616 with f/2.2 aperture. Meizu 17 Pro is also the world’s first smartphone to use the Samsung S5K33D 0.3MP ƒ/1.4 3D ToF depth sensor for portrait bokeh photos and even videos, and adds unique features to the device such as 3D wallpapers and AR tools. With the most modern optical radar module to date, the images gain depth. Meizu said it would add more AR features to its Flyme 8.1 OS in the future to make the most of the hardware.

The company has finally joined the trend to place the selfie camera in a hole in the display with a diameter of only 2.9 mm. The upper right corner is chosen for this purpose, as this position is considered to create the least visual disturbance because we read from left to right. In addition, the company makes full use of the perforation for the camera, which also serves as an indicator for the battery. The phones also boast dual super linear speakers, and according to Meizu, the volume has been increased by 30% compared to their predecessor.

We have a 20MP camera on the front of both models, which takes care of our selfies. The front camera now has a third generation of Super Night Mode 3.0 algorithms, which guarantee clear and vivid selfies even in low light situations.

Meizu 17 and 17 Pro have a battery with a capacity of 4500mAh and 30W Super mCharge fast charging technology, which promises 56% in 30 minutes. The Pro model also comes with 27W Super Wireless mCharge wireless charging, providing 47% in 30 minutes, as well as support for reversible wireless charging.

The new Meizu 17 flagship series comes with the horizontal linear vibrator mEngine 3.0, which improves the gaming performance of the device, and the new One Mind AI 4.0 significantly increases the smoothness of the user interface – by 35% compared to One Mind 3.0. It also supports Wi-Fi 6 standard for wireless networks, a full-featured NFC module and eID.

Meizu has always given due importance to the design of its leading smartphones. The new models have the same body dimensions – only 8.5 mm thick, 77.2 mm wide and 160 mm high. Meizu 17 weighs 199 grams and the Pro version is 219 grams. Here the company has made a special effort to make a balanced design. The weight of the phone is evenly distributed to make it comfortable to hold in your hand.

Meizu 17 is available in three colors – dark gray, ink green and white with gradients (fantasy unicorn). Another difference between 17 and 17 Pro is in the body material. Meizu 17 Pro has a first-class ceramic body in white, black or azure.

Meizu 17 and Meizu 17 Pro come pre-installed with Android 10, wrapped with the updated Flyme 8.1 interface.
