On June 13, 2016, together with Meilan 3s (Meizu M3s for the global market), the company introduced its new router Meizu Router Extreme Edition 2.4/5GHz. This is the company’s third router and the first classic, after Meizu Mini Wi-Fi Router 2.4GHz and Meizu Mini Wi-Fi Router Pro 2.4/5GHz from 2015, whose main idea was to be portable.
According to the official statement, Meizu Router Extreme Edition has a 25% increase in signal compared to conventional routers and covers rooms with an area of up to 200 square meters. It supports 802.11ac wireless protocol, and the transmission speed is 3 times higher than that of ordinary routers.
Meizu Router Extreme Edition has a clean arc design, which in addition to the elegant appearance, also contributes to better cooling. Another original solution is that its antennas can be tucked tightly into the housing for compactness. Available in white only. All interfaces of the router are placed on the back, and only the power indicator is located on the front panel. At the back are a USB 2.0 port for plugging in a flash drive or mobile hard drive and sharing files with connected devices, two LAN ports, one WAN port, a Micro USB power port and the combined reset/WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) button.
The super-fast gigabit Meizu router uses the dual-CPU architecture MT7628AN + MT7612E, in which MediaTek MT7628AN integrates 2T2R 802.11n Wi-Fi radio frequency and 580MHz MIPS24KEc CPU. This chip is mainly responsible for the 2.4GHz bandwidth. The 5GHz bandwidth is provided by the other MediaTek chip MT7612E, which supports the IEEE 802.11ac standard, integrates 2×2 dual-band Wi-Fi wireless radio frequency module and has a maximum transmission speed of 867Mbps. MU-MIMO technology provides a better Wi-Fi experience for multiple users. Meizu Router Extreme Edition has a large memory of 128MB and 16MB ROM.
The Meizu router uses 4 non-directional antennas with a high gain of 6dBi, symmetrically concentrated in two antenna poles, which makes its appearance even more attractive. The new beamforming technology allows the router to automatically track wireless devices such as mobile phones, tablets and laptops in the coverage area, and amplify the signal in a targeted manner without blindly increasing power.
Another distinctive feature of the Meizu Router Extreme Edition is the micro-USB interface used for the power port. In addition to the standard power supply included in the kit, you can also use the mobile phone, which is not only convenient for consumers, but also contributes to environmental protection. A portable external battery (power bank) can also be used. Meizu claims that a 10,000 mAh battery can provide the router with 18 hours of continuous operation due to its optimized power consumption.
To control the router there is an application m+ (Meijia) smart APP, which can be downloaded by scanning the QR code from the instruction booklet. The application can monitor real-time speed, data consumption, connect devices, configure the router, install plug-ins and more. The home network can also be controlled remotely, even when we are away from home.
The Meizu Router Extreme Edition costs 199 yuan, but could be purchased for 159 yuan in combination with the Meilan 3s.
