The three major Chinese operators have already installed a special 5G base station in Meizu’s technology park, providing hardware capability for developers to test.
Today, the company’s vice president Hua Hailiang posted a screenshot of his first 5G speed tests on his Weibo profile. The screenshot was definitely taken with a Meizu smartphone, which is evident from the design of the status bar. And this should be Meizu 17, whose engineering units are already ready.
However, something else makes a more interesting impression. Again, the status bar shows that the phone will not have a selfie camera located in a hole in the display, unless it is in the middle. So most likely the display will have thin bezels and curved 3D (large distances on both sides – to the left of the watch and to the right of the battery percentage) as in the concept Meizu Zero, the development of which will in any case be included in one of the following models. But there is also the possibility of a pop-up selfie camera.
Otherwise, in the next 2020 we will see at least four 5G smartphones from Meizu. This was said in an interview with Nanfang Daily by Chief Technology Officer and one of the company’s veteran engineers Liang Dongming. He has been with Meizu since its founding in 2003.
