Today, at the conference in Zhuhai Grand Theater, the new company’s flagships were presented – Meizu 18 and Meizu 18 Pro.
Both models are powered by the leading 8-core mobile platform Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 + X60 5G modem, 5nm LPE, Kryo 680 architecture and 2.84GHz maximum frequency; Adreno 660 graphics processor; Hexagon 780 DSP AIE; Spectra 580 ISP; LPDDR5 super fast and energy saving RAM; UFS 3.1 flash memory.
Available in 8/128GB, 8/256GB and 12/256GB configurations, RAM and ROM respectively. Depending on the configuration, Meizu 18 sells for 4399, 4699 and 4999 yuan (about 680, 725 and 770 dollars). Meizu 18 Pro is 4999, 5499 and 5999 yuan respectively (approximately 770, 850 and 925 dollars).
The powerful Meizu 18 and Meizu 18 Pro also require a more powerful cooling design. For this purpose, the large VC (Vapor Chamber) is a liquid-cooled zone for heat dissipation generated by the high load.
They are equipped with 2K+ Samsung E4 Super AMOLED micro-curved displays with 120Hz refresh rate and 240Hz sampling rate, HDR 10+ certification, contrast 5000000: 1 and up to 1300 nits peak brightness. The displays are SGS certified for reduced harmful blue light and reduce energy consumption by 15%.
The back cover is 3D curved glass treated with AG anti-glare technology, and the side frame is made of high quality aluminum alloy.
Qualcomm’s new generation ultrasonic fingerprint unlocking, in combination with Meizu’s proprietary mTouch development, provides 0.1 sec detection speed and wet hand unlock.
The improved mEngine 4.0 tactile engine with a larger horizontal linear vibrator provides a 4D obsessive gaming experience. The fourth generation dual super linear speakers and the acoustic tuning of Meizu contribute to the loud and high-quality stereo sound.
The display of Meizu 18 is 6.2 inches with a 20:9 aspect ratio, 1440×3200 resolution and 563 pixel density. The weight of the phone is only 162 grams and its dimensions are 69.2×152.4×8.18mm. Meizu 18 Pro has a 6.7-inch 20:9 screen, 1440×3200 resolution and 526 PPI. It weighs 189 grams and measures 73×162.5×8.1mm.
Meizu 18 is equipped with a triple camera. The main sensor is Sony IMX 682, 64MP, wide aperture ƒ/1.6 and Ultra SMA OIS 7P lens. SMA (Shape Memory Alloy) OIS is a new generation of optical image stabilization that uses alloys capable of memorizing a specific shape. The SMA OIS mechanism is placed between the traditional autofocus (AF) mechanism and the image sensor. The Meizu 18’s camera also includes a 122° wide-angle/macro sensor Samsung S5K3P9SX 16MP ƒ/2.2, 5P and OV08A10 8MP ƒ/2.4 telephoto. The front camera is 20MP 3T2 ƒ/2.2 with equivalent focal length 26mm, Backlight selfie HDR, Super night view and other features.
Meizu 18 Pro has a more powerful rear camera configuration – 50MP Samsung S5KGN1, ƒ/1.9, 23mm equivalent focal length, 7P lens; ultra wide angle/macro 130° 32MP Sony IMX616, ƒ/2.2, 15mm equivalent focal length; 8MP OmniVision OV08A10, ƒ/2.4, 79mm and ToF sensor 0.3MP Samsung 33D, ƒ/1.4. With its help we can take pictures with 3x optical, 5x hybrid and 30x digital zoom. The selfie camera is 44MP GH1 ƒ/2.4 with Backlight selfie HDR, Super night view and other features.
Both models use Meizu’s new algorithm, DarkVision Ultimate Night View, to enhance images when shooting in low light conditions.
The battery of Meizu 18 has a capacity of 4000mAh, which through the company’s Super mCharge 36W can be charged up to 80% in 30 minutes and fully charged in 55 minutes. A 4500mAh battery is responsible for the autonomy of Meizu 18 Pro. The more expensive model supports 40W Super mCharge wired and 40W Super Wireless mCharge wireless charging. In 15 minutes the battery is charged to 40%, in 33 minutes to 80% and in 50 minutes is fully charged.
As we already know, this year’s flagships of the company will be sold without a charger adapter in the kit, so the idea is for consumers to use their available chargers from previous phones. For this purpose, the Meizu 18 series supports the main charging protocols – PD and QC.
The mSmart 5G 2.0 optimization algorithm has also been upgraded, which together with the X60 5G modem provides high connection performance and low power consumption. Thanks to the X60 5G, the download speed can reach up to 7.5Gbps, and the upload speed up to 3Gbps. Both models support Bluetooth 5.2 protocol, full-featured NFC module and eID.
The innovative Wi-Fi 6E technology covers 2.4GHz, 5GHz and 6GHz bands with data throughput up to 3.6Gbps, supports 4K QAM, 160MHz bandwidth, 4-channel dual-frequency concurrency and other leading technologies.
Meizu 18 and Meizu 18 Pro come pre-installed with the brand new Flyme 9 firmware based on Android 11. Meizu announced that all built-in applications are without any form of advertising and content interruption, all application notifications must be manually authorized and there are no pre-installed third party applications.
Meizu 18 and Meizu 18 Pro are available in three color options each. For the first time in a long time, there will be no phone with a white front panel, the production of which the company announced that it will suspend.
