Meizu PRO 7 won the prestigious iF DESIGN AWARD 2018 for product design in the Smartphones category. The company’s flagship series competed with more than 6,400 applications from 54 countries around the world.
The collaboration between Meizu Technology and renowned design and strategy firm Frog has led to the innovative new PRO 7 smartphone with a differentiated user experience through an unprecedented dual display. Meizu and Frog have developed a rethought premium smartphone with “Omni-Dimensional Design”, functional and beautiful from every angle, and adapted to the natural behavior of the modern user. Meizu PRO 7 has the world’s first retina touchscreen display located on the back of the phone.
According to observations, in everyday life consumers often put the phone face down. This is the basis of the idea to use both sides of the device. Users can open various applications and see important notifications at a glance without having to look at the front display. They can also take selfies using the PRO 7’s more powerful dual rear camera.
The multidisciplinary team from the studios in Shanghai, London and New York has faced a number of engineering challenges due to the included additional features. The integration of two displays, cameras, flash and sensors leads to the risk of increasing the size and weight of the smartphone. In order not to compromise, Meizu has invested $2.5 million to create a personalized display with a minimalist elegant design and extremely hard aluminosilicate glass material, using CNC technology to integrate it seamlessly into the aluminum body.
Meizu PRO 7 is a combination of Frog’s human-oriented design, radical creative thinking and Meizu’s long-standing commitment to quality and craftsmanship.
