This year will definitely be the year of 5G smartphones. However, one of the main directions in which manufacturers must work is to reduce the power consumption of phones and extend the battery life. In response to this problem, Meizu Technology presented its own mSmart 5G solution, which we saw at the presentation „Meizu 17 mSmart 5G Fast and Stable Technology Sharing Meeting“ on April 17.
Reducing power consumption with Meizu’s mSmart 5G is achieved by intelligently switching between 5G and 4G connectivity, through self-learning according to the different habits of users when using smartphones. The signal of the base station, the type of traffic, the energy consumption are also analyzed…
Laboratory-measured results for the life of the Meizu 17 battery were also shown. The test process includes 2 hours of using WeChat, 2 hours of playing “Honor of Kings”, 1 hour of listening to music with Kugou Music, 30 minutes of using the camera, 30 minutes of browsing the gallery, 30 minutes of browsing the web with UC Browser, 1 hour e-book reading, 20 minutes home screen and 10 minutes settings. This generally covers the daily use of the smartphone by the user. The 8-hour battery life test achieves up to 64% energy savings when the mSmart 5G is active.
It also compares the battery life of Meizu 17 (4500mAh) and three other competing 5G smartphones – Huawei P40 Pro (4200mAh), OPPO Find X2 Pro (4200mAh) and Xiaomi MI 10 (4780mAh). The graph shows that the four models have different battery capacity, but nevertheless the battery life of Meizu 17 is the best in terms of capacity/time ratio.
