Today Meizu Technology turned 18 years old. “Unique love, self-contained. Looking forward to the future, we will work with you to write more stories. ❤“ – the company wrote in its official Weibo profile.
On the occasion of its 18th birthday, Meizu decided to share with us 18 facts that have not been made public so far. The most interesting of these are:
• Meizu’s original idea was to make an MP3 player with a call function, which was later transformed into the Meizu M8 smartphone.
• A Meizu Magazine is published entirely by the Meizu MY+ fan club (Meizu Meiyou, 魅族魅友).
• Prior to 2003, the company’s founder Huang Zhang used the profile name “Almighty Chinese Products” on online platforms. He is now known as J. Wong.
• Something we already know – the name of the company’s interface Flyme is inspired by “Flying House”.
• The company’s mascot is a panda. The idea for it comes from the MX2 mobile phone, which is black on the front and white on the back.
• The Meizu M7 miniplayer, which Huang Zhang announced at the forum in September 2007, is a real project, but it was not launched later.
• The “Phone Finder” function was born after the theft of the mobile phone of one of the product managers, which irritated him a lot.
• The most expensive exhibits at Chinajoy 2020 are from the Meizu 17 Pro Hsiao Fang Pottery Art collection series. The company’s employees personally guarded the exhibits until the exhibition, as the agents did not dare to take the risk of the expensive guarantee.
• The most inspiring story – out of love for Meizu, a future employee traveled the distance from Shandong to the company’s headquarters in Zhuhai by bicycle and finally became part of the team.
The 18th anniversary was marked with the launch of the flagship Meizu 18 and Meizu 18 Pro series in early March, which is available today in the company’s official store on AliExpress. At the beginning of the year, the first products of the newly created Meizu Lipro healthy lighting series were presented.
