Qualcomm has introduced its latest processor for the high-end phones, Snapdragon 888, although it was expected to be Snapdragon 875. Snapdragon 888 is based on a completely new architecture, equipped with a sixth generation AI engine and a third generation X60 5G modem. Yesterday, Qualcomm China announced on its Weibo account which will be the first smartphone manufacturers to use the new 5G mobile platform. Among them will be Meizu Technology.
Meizu also made an official statement. The company’s technical director Liang Dongming said that Qualcomm and Meizu Technology have been working together for a long time to provide a constant extreme user experience and meet the basic needs of consumers. Liang Dongming has announced that the first batch of new Meizu products equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 platform will be launched in the spring of 2021. Most likely it will be in May. As 2021 marks Meizu’s 18th anniversary and following naming trends, the new flagship series is expected to be Meizu 18.
We already know that for now the company will focus on high-end smartphones and budget models will not be produced. But it is still unclear whether there will be at least one mid-range smartphone next year. It remains to be seen.
Otherwise, in 2020 only two models were released – Meizu 17 and Meizu 17 Pro. In addition to series production, these models also had limited collector’s editions – Meizu 17 Aircraft Carrier and Meizu 17 Pro Hsiao Fang Pottery Art. A limited series of the more budget model Meizu 17 AG Fantasy Unicorn Crazy Racing KartRider was recently released for gamers.
Let’s also remind that Meizu 17 Pro managed to grab two prestigious awards – Good Design Award 2020 in the category Cameras, mobile phones and tablets, and CMC Swan Award 2020 in the category Best 5G mobile phone.
In addition to the 17 series, a number of other products were launched in 2020, such as the Meizu HD60 ANC headphones, MEIZU UR LIVE Special Edition, Meizu Buds ENC and Meizu POP2s, Meizu 27W wireless charger, Meizu 65W GaN charger and Meizu USB-C 10000mAh power bank. From the lifestyle accessories we saw a backpack and a camera bag, and USB-PD data cable for Apple products from the luxury Lifeme series, as well as T-shirts, shopping bags and smartphone cases from the PANDAER youth series.
Meizu plans to enter the AIoT field more widely. By the end of the year, the first Meizu Smart Watch with a specially designed user interface Flyme for Watch should be presented. Recently, the company passed the 3C certification (China Quality Certification Center) for built-in lighting fixtures for LED modules.
