Today, Meizu’s firmware turned 9 years old. During these years, FlymeOS continues to grow, showing its vitality, and bringing users new and better experiences.
The first Meizu M8 smartphone, based on Windows CE 6.0, has a company modification called Mymoblie. The next Meizu M9 phone already has Android 2.2. It wasn’t until the release of the Meizu MX that the Flyme name was officially introduced as its own deep-customized operating system based on Android.
Flyme 1.0
Flyme’s date of birth is June 25, 2012. It is based on Android 4.0.3 (Ice Cream Sandwich). A little later it was released for the Meizu M9.
Flyme 2.0
The second version of Flyme comes on November 27, 2012, along with the introduction of the Meizu MX2. Flyme 2 is based on Android 4.1.1 (Jelly Bean).
Flyme 3.0
Flyme 3 was introduced with the Meizu MX3 on September 2, 2013 and is based on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean). For the first time, a flat design was introduced, which Apple later used in its iOS7.
Flyme 4.0
The fourth version of the firmware we see on September 2, 2014 at the event of the presentation of the Meizu MX4. It is based on Android 4.4.4 (Kitkat). Developments for phones of other companies are already starting here. Flyme 4 is officially released for models of Samsung, Sony, LG and HTC, and fans are adapting it for OnePlus One.
Flyme 4.5
This mid-release version was released on June 2, 2015 along with the Meizu M2 Note based on Android 5.0 (Lollipop). The global version of Flyme 4.5 will be released on December 14, 2015 with the Meizu MX5. A version for the Indian market has also been developed. This is the best version of Flyme OS until the release of Flyme 5 in 114 days.
Flyme 5.0
Flyme 5 we see on September 23, 2015, during the presentation of Meizu Pro 5. It is based on Android 5.1 (Lollipop). Its global version will be released on January 6, 2016 for the Meizu MX5, and for the other Meizu phones on February 4. There is no longer a separate version for the Indian market, it is integrated in the G version.
Flyme 6.0
Flyme 6 slows down a lot. Comes in 430 days, on November 30, 2016, along with the presentation of the Meizu Pro 6 Plus. It is based on Android 5.1 (Lollipop) and Android 6 (Marshmallow), depending on the phone model. The first Flyme 6 Global Beta was released in December, and the stable one will be released on March 3, 2017.
Flyme 7.0
Flyme 7 was introduced on April 22, 2018, along with the Meizu 15, Meizu 15 Plus and Meizu 15 Lite series, dedicated to the company’s 15th anniversary. It is based on Android 7.1.2.
Flyme 8.0
Flyme 8 based on Android 9 Pie was unveiled on August 28, 2019, along with the release of Meizu 16s Pro. However, the phone comes with a beta version of the newly introduced firmware, and the stable version is ready in November.
Flyme 9.0
The current firmware version of Flyme 9, based on Android 11, was introduced on March 2, 2021. A separate presentation was made for it, a day before the presentation of Meizu 18 and Meizu 18 Pro, as the company wanted to emphasize of the many security enhancements to its new user interface.
On the occasion of Flyme’s 9th birthday, Meizu showed how the design of the Browser, Phone and Messages app icons has changed in different versions of the company’s shell.
